A Wednesday afternoon car crash in Harlem left one person dead and four others injured.

Police say a Ford Focus was making a turn at the corner of 135th and Broadway around 2 p.m. Wednesday when it was hit by a van.

The two vehicles swerved into the corner of the intersection, hitting a woman on the sidewalk, who officials say was not seriously injured.

A woman riding in the Focus was taken to St. Luke's Hospital and pronounced dead. A man and two children in the car were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the van was taken into custody.

Police say charges have not yet been filed.
