Police have arrested a man after he allegedly held and tortured a woman on and off in his apartment in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Anthony Matthews, 31, imprisoned the 26-year-old intermittently over a period of about two years.
Sources say Matthews burned the woman with an iron and a heated screwdriver, and shoved a gun in her mouth, breaking some of her teeth.
According to police, the woman left the apartment on Monday. It is unclear if she escaped or was let go.
Authorities were called two days later while she was at Woodhull Hospital.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Matthews concealed the abuse from his family.
"He actually takes her to his mother's house, and lets her stay with the mother, saying that she was attacked or was assaulted by someone else," Kelly said.
Matthews is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, assault and weapons possession.
