New Yorkers who want to get fit and healthy this year can take part in "New Year, New You," an eight-week challenge that is part of the Parks Department's Shape Up NYC program.

Participants can visit Shape Up sites around the city to get measurements taken and set healthy weight loss goals.

"We know that there's a crisis in New York with people being obese, and not being fit enough. And there are really no excuses not to get fit," said Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe. "The parks are free, we have all kinds of fitness opportunities in the parks that are free, our recreation centers are low-cost."

The program, which runs until March 2, awards will be given to the top three “Most Improved” participants, based on weight loss and healthy behavior.
