The New York City Fire Department is asking for help as two of its own recover from injuries suffered while battling a house fire in Brooklyn.

Robert Wiedmann and James Gersbeck were severely burned during Monday's fire in Crown Heights.

Both are assigned to Rescue 2, and now the rest of their unit is asking for financial donations to help the families.

Wiedmann suffered second and third-degree burns over 50 percent of his body and will need several operations over the next six to eight weeks.

Gersbeck was not as severely burned.

Doctors don't think he'll need any surgery for now.

There is no word as to how long his recovery will take.

To make a donation, send a check to the FDNY RESCUE 2 MAYDAY FUND, Rescue Company 2 FDNY, P.O. Box 95, Sayville, NY 11782.

Wiedmann's family is also planning several blood drives to help with his surgeries. For more information, visit fdnyrescue2.org.
