Filmmakers have converged on Brooklyn for a month-long festival that showcases directors from the Caribbean.The film "Nou Yorkers" takes a look at graffiti artists from Guadalupe who visit the Big Apple to learn the tricks of the trade.
It's one of a slew of films being featured at the Flatbush Film Festival where directors from the Caribbean have a platform to showcase their films.
Jalnluk Stanislas is a filmmaker from the Island of Guadalupe.
"It's about knowing about ourself coming from African but also about the future because America is a mix of a lot of communities," says Stanislas
Organizers of the Flatbush Film Festival say it's being held in Brooklyn because the borough is home to the city's largest Caribbean population.
"What I'm hoping to do is create public awareness about emerging Caribbean film and art," says Flatbush Film Festival Founder Shelley Worrell.
For the next month, different nations will be the weekly focus of the festival.
The film "Man Free" will be featured during "Jamaica Night." The film is narrated by the legendary film director Perry Henzell with exclusive footage of the famed Jamaican filmmaker before he passed away.
The event will also feature artists.
The Flatbush Film Festival runs through November 18.
