Students at Brooklyn Technical High School can now gain hands-on legal experience, as the school unveiled a state-of-the-art legal research center Wednesday.
Complete with a courtroom and legal lab, the center will be used for mock trials, forensic research projects, and other studies to prepare students for a career in law or forensic science.
"I think it opens up a world of opportunity and employment opportunities, because exposing young people to this profession and facets of the law profession, who knows if it opens up a lifelong career?" said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.
"I felt happy, even more happy that I actually came to Brooklyn Tech, that they actually facilitated this for us and thought it was important, because it really is. It really brings it to life for me," said student Toluwase Oladapo.
Other city schools will also have access to the space, thanks to a partnership between Brooklyn Tech, Columbia University and John Jay College.
The facility was made possible through City Council funding.
