L train riders can look forward to more service on the weekends next year.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials say L trains will run more frequently starting in mid-2012 to keep up with the growing number of riders on the weekends.
According to the agency, weekend ridership on the line has increased by 141 percent since 1998, but service has only increased by less than 60 percent.
The MTA also looked into F train weekend service, but officials say extending service on that line is not possible right now.
Transit advocates say Manhattan Senator Daniel Squadron was instrumental in getting the MTA to release this report.
