A group of young refugees were recognized Friday in Brooklyn as they took a step toward a permanent spot in America.
A graduation ceremony was held at the Bushwick School for Social Justice for dozens of students who completed the International Rescue Committee's youth summer academy.
Many of the graduates lived in refugee camps in their home countries before coming to the U.S.
Now they're getting ready to start their first classes at New York public schools this fall.
Students' countries around the world include the Ivory Coast, Guinea and Tibet.
