A Brooklyn man was rescued Wednesday from a fire in his apartment by firefighters from a company slated to be closed due to budget cuts.
The fire broke out just before 7:00 a.m. on Bay View Avenue in Coney Island, trapping a man in his third floor apartment.
Firefighters from Ladder 161 were able to reach the man just in time.
He was taken to Coney Island Hospital for smoke inhalation. He is in serious condition.
20 firehouses around the city may be on the chopping block.
"We got the window out and we were able to get the victim out safely,” said firefighter Sean Connolly.
“He was very lucky, this person was very lucky, I don't know what's going to happen in the future, I just know today this person made it," said Lt. Edward Gonzalez of Ladder 161.
Eight of the fire companies on the city's closure list are in Brooklyn, more than any other borough.
