An undercover officer from the New York City Police Department shot and killed an armed man in Bushwick, Brooklyn on Wednesday.

According to police, a member of the NYPD's elite guns unit had a prearranged meeting to buy six handguns from a 22-year-old suspect just before 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The undercover policeman was escorted into 193 Knickerbocker Avenue near Troutman Street.

Police say a 31-year-old man then approached the pair with a .380 semiautomatic pistol, seen above, pretended to commit a robbery and pointed the weapon at the officer.

The policeman fired three times and hit the armed man.

Both suspects tried to escape, but the wounded man fell and died on the second floor.

The younger man went up to the third floor and tried to hide the gun in the ceiling, but he was later arrested by police.

The 22-year-old suspect was in police custody late Wednesday, and police say he made statements that implicated himself.

There was no word by late Wednesday as to what charges he would face.

The involved police officer was taken to Wyckoff Hospital for trauma, but he was not injured.

Police said both the dead man and the arrested suspect previously sold guns to undercover officers.
