The city Department of Health says it has found an unusually high number of mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus this season, but no human cases have been detected yet.

Parts of Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx will be sprayed with pesticide next week.

Mosquitoes with the virus have been found in every borough except Manhattan.

City Health Commissioner Thomas Farley says the recent heat waves may be a factor, as warm standing water is an ideal breeding ground.

While most people will feel mild flu-like symptoms from West Nile, the virus can cause meningitis or encephalitis.
