After years of complaints, city officials have finally done away with a prison-theme in a Brooklyn playground.

The city painted over a sign that read "jail," as well as prison bars that had been on jungle gym equipment at the Tompkins Houses in Bedford Stuyvesant. The kids use the jail for cops and robbers games.

Some parents complained that young people in the area have enough trouble with the law without getting a preschool reminder.

"It's very offensive for anyone to design a replica of a prison for babies," said Brooklyn Councilman Albert Vann. "And it's equally as offensive if we have been so conditioned by some that we can accept such a concept."

A NYCHA spokeswoman says the painting over of the jail sign and bars was a temporary solution, and a permanent solution is being worked out.
