The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is getting ready to ring in the Lunar New Year.

The garden is exhibiting plants native to China, Korea, Vietnam, and other countries in East Asia.

Plants and flowers are traditionally displayed to mark the celebration, with many holding special meaning.

"Orchids are very good luck and they have been the subject of painting and poetry in East Asian culture for a very long time,” explained Kate Blumm of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. “And to have a blooming plant in your house on Lunar New Year or to be around one brings you very good luck for the year ahead."

Sunday marks the beginning of lunar year 4708, the Year of the Tiger.

All exhibits are free with admission and they run through the end of the month.
