Activists Protest Brooklyn Immigrant's Detention
Dozens of activists gathered Tuesday in Lower Manhattan to protest a Brooklyn man's detention by immigration officials.
Jean Montrevil, 41, seen right with his family, who has had a permanent resident card since 1986, was detained by officials on Wednesday when he visited his immigration supervisor.
Montrevil, who is now being held in a Pennsylvania facility, faces deportation because he was convicted of selling drugs in 1989.
After serving time in prison, the Haitian-born Bushwick resident became a spokesperson for immigration reform.
According to the Associated Press, 10 of the protesters were arrested by police for blocking traffic for more than a half-hour.
