Habitat for Humanity volunteers braved the cold to begin construction on 16 new affordable condo homes in Brooklyn Friday.
A group of 15 employees from Citigroup were the first volunteers to work on the homes for Bedford-Stuyvesant families.
The volunteers wrote messages for future homeowners on sheetrock that will later hang inside the Hart Street homes.
The units are being built within energy efficiency standards, with windows and water-saving faucets that can cut homeowners utility bills by about 30 percent.
A Habitat for Humanity New York City spokesperson said families will move into the houses by the end of 2010.
