A special exhibition honoring the famed children's television series "Sesame Street" was unveiled Tuesday in Brooklyn. NY1's Jeanine Ramirez field the following report.

Muppets on loan from creator Jim Henson's private collection, along with many items from the show "Sesame Street" are now being displayed in a one-of-a-kind exhibition at the Brooklyn Public Library's central branch.

"It was actually pretty much lost for almost 20 years. We have an archivist who spent the last two years combing off-site storage, contacting individuals to assemble some of these things, most of these images have never been seen by the public before. It was really extraordinary discovering them," said Sesame Workshop Executive Director Betsy Loredo.

On display are some original scripts including a memorable one from 1983 that deals with the death of Mr. Hooper, one of the show's best loved characters. Visitors to the museum can also see lyric sheets of some of the show's catchiest tunes as well as behind-the-scene photos, including the operation of the puppets and of Henson himself.

There's also an Emmy Award -- one of the more than 100 the show has earned over four decades.

"I think it's a good opportunity for those who have loved 'Sesame Street' all their lives to just rekindle that memory of childhood and come out and enjoy the programs we have scheduled," said Brooklyn Public Library Executive Director Dionne Mack-Harvin.

Most of the programming and exhibits are on the first floor including a collection of book art. It shows the most recent digitally illustrated characters along with some of the original hand sketched ones dating back to 1971.

"This is works on paper. This is watercolor. Guash, ink , pencil, white out. Any media you can think of has been used to render these characters on paper," said Sesame Workshop Publishing Archivist June Reich.

The library is also issuing these commemorative library cards and cases for new memberships.

The "Sesame Street" exhibition kicks off this Saturday and runs through February 21st, but the limited edition Elmo library cards are while supplies last and are available at all local Brooklyn library branches starting this weekend.
