Fans were out bright and early Tuesday for a chance to see their favorite Giants in a ticker-tape parade through Lower Manhattan. NY1’s Jon Weinstein filed the following report. Long before the Giants victorious march down Broadway reached a fevered pitch, the most dedicated fans were lined up in the dark, determined to get the best spots.
“I'm here to get front row to see my favorite team, because we deserve this championship, baby,” said one Giants fan.
“I'm just excited. New York Giants: superheroes in the real world,” said another..
Once the sun came up, the party started in full force.
“Like awesome, we can be here front row. It’s awesome, no people get this chance,” said one Big Blue buff.
“My favorite part of the entire thing was not just seeing the players but that Flava Flav came out of nowhere, and I think I was the only person besides these guys who knew who he was,” said another.
Whether they were out to see a specific player or just to take in the championship atmosphere, the fans were feeling as good as they possibly could.
“I love the Giants. I'm a big fan of the defense, though. I love the defensive ends: Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Chris Canty, JPP, all of those guys,” said one fan.
“We're loyal Giants fans and we're happy they won the Super Bowl again. Eli's the man. He's the MVP, he beats Brady again,” said another.
But even after the parade was long gone, the fans lingered to throw confetti and watch the City Hall ceremony on big screens.
“It was great. You can't beat it. This doesn't happen too often. We get spoiled with the Yankees, but the Giants—football’s a tough sport. It’s great,” said one New Yorker.
“It’s amazing, everything was perfect, the weather was perfect,” said another.
Even though the parade and ceremony meant the end of the football season, fans are already rooting for the Giants to win next year.
