NY1 VIDEO: After more than two years spent denying he had beaten and brutalized Abner Louima inside a Brooklyn police stationhouse, Police Officer Justin Volpe pleaded guilty to the crime during his 1999 trial. The stunning admission came after jurors heard three weeks of damaging testimony linking Volpe to the assault. NY1's Jeanine Ramirez filed this report on May 24, 1999.

NY1 FOLLOW-UP: In December 1999, Justin Volpe was sentenced to 30 years in jail without parole. He is serving his sentence in a Florida prison and is scheduled to be released in 2025.
