The state's top lawyer wants to make sure every dollar New Yorkers donate to charitable causes such as breast cancer awareness is being put to the best use.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced what he says are "Five Best Practices" that he hopes will serve as a guide for charity marketing campaigns.
Groups that sign on will be required to disclose information to consumers, including what charities their money will be going to and how their donation or purchase will be given to the cause.
The nation's largest breast cancer charities, Susan G. Komen For The Cure and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, have already adopted the practices.
