The city's planned high-tech campus has taken another step toward becoming a reality.

Cornell NYC Tech entered a seven-month land use review process Monday for its new campus on Roosevelt Island.

The school also released some new renderings of the proposed campus.

A series of open public spaces will provide New Yorkers with unobstructed views of the skyline, and students will be able to enjoy the outdoors in a big public cafe on the ground floor of the academic building.

Designers hope to make it one of the largest energy-neutral buildings in the United States.

Construction on the island is expected to begin in 2014.

The campus is slated to open in 2017 and be fully complete in 2037.
