A pet-friendly resort in Maine is giving new meaning to the dog days of summer. NY1's Valarie D'Elia filed the following report. When Chuin Lee of Manhattan takes a family vacation she looks for an all-inclusive, and to her that means a trip that includes her beloved 12-year-old Maltese, Mika.
"It’s laid back, it’s got trails, it's got hiking, it's by the ocean. So it's basically all-inclusive, as inclusive as you can get for a relaxing vacation with the dog," says Lee.
The Inn by the Sea, just outside Portland, Maine, is paws down, the most pet-friendly upscale resort I’ve ever experienced. You don’t have to pay more for your pet and there’s lots of extra treats. For the most part, dogs get the run of the place with the exception of the private beach in high season and dining inside the restaurant.
There’s even a gourmet doggie menu.
“He tried the bird dog, which is their whole grilled chicken breast with steamed rice, carrots, fresh vegetables. And he also tried the doggie gumbo which I think is his favorite so far," says Lee.
The best time for a dog lover to take a vacation at the resort is in October when the beach is no longer off limits. And get this, before they drain it, the pool literally goes to the dogs for both sunning and swimming.
From October 15th through October 31st the rate drops practically in half to around $400 per night for a traditional guest room for their Pumpkin Harvest package for a minimum two-night stay. This includes one four-course meal in Sea Glass restaurant.
As a D’Elia’s Deal they are offering one gourmet pet meal per night through the end of November when you tell them Val sent you.

An upscale New York City hotel is also waiving their pet fee. The Intercontinental New York Barclay is so dog-friendly it's the host hotel for the Pet Product Showcase which includes what every urban pooch needs for a night out on the town -- hair extensions and diamond studded collars.
The next Pet Product Showcase takes place November 9. Their Royal Pooch package is $295 a night.
