NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment “App Wrap.” NY1’s Adam Balkin filed the following report. UpNext Map
Most people who use a map on your mobile device use a Google Map, the undisputed king of digital map apps. However, there is another digital map app, "UpNext Map," that distinguishes itself by offering pretty detailed 3-D images of buildings.
The developers were not lazy when they created the "UpNext Map" app. For most major U.S. cities is just shows the major landmarks, but in the most popular areas of select major cities, like Midtown Manhattan, it shows every building accurately in 3-D.
However, places beyond the popular areas, like the Upper East Side of Manhattan, start to look again like a standard map. In addition to cool graphics, the map is fully searchable for eating, shopping, leisure and nightlife and cool deals. Yelp and Foursquare are also built in there.
"UpNext Maps" are free downloads for iOS and Android devices.
Flick Kicker
People who have been watching all the recent NFL playoffs know how crucial and stressful the job of kicker can be, such as the New York Giants player who scored the NFC Championship game winner in overtime. Now, mobile device users can step into their shoes with the "Flick Kicker" app, without having to worry about an entire legion of enraged fans if they miss.
Users choose a team, put a name on the back of a virtual player's uniform and then kick away in a series of games and challenges. It is both field goal place kicking and punting into the so-called "coffin corner," angling one well enough to pin the other team inside their own 10-yard line.
As users improve at making the kicks, they can aim at specific spots for more points.
"Flick Kicker" is right now for iOS devices only for 99 cents.
