NY1 highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment “App Wrap.” NY1’s Adam Balkin filed the following report.

PairShare, Eavesdrop

The old-school way to instantly share music with a friend through your portable device is dead. The new way is though apps like “PairShare” or “Eavesdrop.”

If you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod, turn on your Bluetooth and launch either app. One person starts playing music and the other wireless taps in and hears the exact same thing.
You both see the same album art and everything.

“PairShare” is for iOS devices and will cost you $2.99.

“Eavesdrop” sells for $1.99. It works with WiFi and gives the option to instantly buy the song being shared via iTunes.

Zoom Reader

Most of the apps we download and use are for fun, some help make our jobs or daily lives easier, but for people with disabilities their mobile device can become a powerful tool for completing tasks others might take for granted. "ZoomReader" is a new iPhone app for people with low vision.

Someone with poor vision trying to read an article in a small-text magazine article can just point their iPhone camera at the text. They can zoom in on that text, change the font and alter the background color to make the text pop.

The app will also take a picture of the text and turn it into a more readable format for the user. Readers can either read the text themselves, or opt to have the app read it aloud to them.

“Zoom Reader” is an iPhone app for $19.99. For Android users, the "IDEAL Magnifier" app is free, but only does real-time magnification and color change.
