Senator Charles Schumer announced Sunday that the Food and Drug Administration will review inhalable caffeine and determine whether it is safe and legal.

The "AeroShot" lipstick canister releases B Vitamins with a fine caffeine power that is the equal to the caffeine in a large cup of coffee.

The caffeine inhaler hit the market late last month in New York and Massachusetts.

Because AeroShot is sold as a dietary supplement, it does not require FDA approval.

Schumer said he is worried kids could overuse the product and that it could become the next big "club drug."

"It's very possible that snorting caffeine is dangerous, particularly to a 12-year-old. There are no age limits on the product, and certainly dangerous when used in combination with alcohol," said the senator.

The FDA is also investigating whether AeroShot is a legal dietary supplement.
