New York Senator Charles Schumer officially apologized Wednesday for cursing at a flight attendant.

A spokesperson said the senator made an off-the-cuff comment under his breath when the woman walked away during a recent flight.

According to Politico, Schumer and his seatmate, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, were talking on their cell phones before takeoff when an announcement was made telling all passengers to turn off their phones.

The website reported Schumer got into an argument with the flight attendant about the rule and then called her an insulting name as she walked away.

Schumer said he should not have made the comment and regrets saying the word.
