Opponents of Mayor Bloomberg's plan for cuts to child care programs protested on the steps of City Hall Wednesday.

Your Call On Child Care Cuts

More than 30,000 slots in day care programs are on the chopping block in the mayor's budget proposal.

Opponents say the mayor should have enough money to restore the needed funds.

As part of the rally, two children walked up the steps of City Hall and presented symbolic letters of protest against the cuts.

"We need to say NO to any budget that comes before us that has these Draconian cuts to the least of these our babies, our children, our working class families," said City Councilman Charles Barron of Brooklyn.

"You really want to help the kids and you really want to help the family but if they take the service away from us, I think it's injustice for the children's education," said child care provider Laura Garcia.

Mayor Bloomberg and the City Council have until the end of June to pass a budget.
