A man is facing drunk driving charges after his car smashed into a passenger van near Radio City Music Hall in Midtown Sunday morning, injuring six people.

Police say a Mercedes sedan ran a red light and smashed into a GO Airlink passenger van around 4:45 a.m. at Sixth Avenue and 50th Street near Radio City Music Hall.

Eyewitnesses tell NY1 the van flipped and pedestrians helped lift the vehicle off a passenger trapped underneath.

Of the five people brought to the hospital, two had serious injuries.

"Very significant. I wouldn't want to be in any of those vehicles. It looked pretty bad," said one onlooker.

"First time I saw it, I didn't think that's real. So it is really, I don't know, it's really terrible. It's really terrible," said another.

The accident shut down traffic in the area for a few hours, but the roads later reopened. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
