As first reported by NY1, the New York City Police Department busted an international motorcycle theft ring, with 33 people now under arrest.

The NYPD conducted a year-long investigation into stolen motorcycles in the city and found the bikes were being shipped to different countries.

Officials said the ring dispatched teams in stolen minivans to comb upscale city neighborhoods for motorcycles.

Police also confiscated guns during the bust.

"This case began as an investigation into a single Yamaha motorcycle stolen from Tribeca last spring," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. "Detectives soon learned that the theft was connected to an organized and opportunistic network of criminals."

"Today's case charges 33 defendants with multiple high-level felonies, including enterprise corruption under New York state's organized crime control act as well as criminal sale of firearms, grand larceny possession of stolen property, insurance fraud and other related crimes," said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.

Police recovered numerous motorcycles and guns as part of the bust. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
