Singer/songwriter Jason Mraz is in the midst of a five-borough tour. He's playing smaller venues in Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx and wrapping it up with two nights at Radio City Music Hall. NY1 Arts and Culture reporter Stephanie Simon spoke with Mraz about the inspiration for the tour and filed the following report.

The remedy for fans who just can't get enough of Jason Mraz: A six-day tour with a stop in each borough.

"I've met a couple of fans who are going to all of them so the pressure’s on me to make each show different, and we will, we’ll make each show different and exciting," says Mraz. "It’ll give me a chance to really dive into my old catalogue and pulls out some songs that I probably haven’t performed since I wrote them here in the 90s in New York."

It's a bit of a homecoming for Mraz who went to school here for about a year, but even more so for his music.

Stephanie Simon: You’re gonna go right back to the New York vibe?

Jason Mraz: I have to. In fact, I made my very first demo ever in the Bronx. So I was hoping to play those songs, you know, and that was 1995. So I’m hoping to play those songs in the Bronx and just, you know, give them a homecoming.

Mraz says he's looking forward to exploring each borough and getting back to the intimacy of his early coffee house days.

"The stadiums are great, there’s a time and place for those. But I also love the conversation that can be had in a theater," says Mraz. "You know it’s more like a town hall or it’s more like a coming together. We sit together and have an experience together, rather than just everyone drinking and shouting and being observed, these theatrical shows are very much a community event."
