The East Village newcomer Edi and the Wolf lets diners ingest their entrees with a side of sun. NY1's Michelle Park filed the following report.

The warm temperatures have some New Yorkers itching to enjoy the long-awaited sunshine, and the Zagat Restaurant Guide recommends Edi and the Wolf, a relative newcomer to the East Village, for a taste of the great outdoors alongside affordable, elegantly created cuisine.

"It's a big part of Edi and Wolf of defining this Austrian wine bar concept, where people meet in the wine garden, meet in outdoor space. Open air, which is very welcoming," says chef-owner Eduard Frauneder.

Surveyors say Edi and the Wolf brings Austrian cooking to the East Village in "über-rustic, reclaimed wood-lined digs" that are "poised for warm weather."

Frauneder says he has been looking forward to spring since Edi opened a few months ago.

"We've been waiting to open the doors -- open the front door, open the garden -- to have the sun coming in, having like a nice pleasant day or even dinner at the garden," he says.

Diners can sit out front, where there is a retractable sidewalk wall, or howl at the moon in the backyard, surrounded by plants of all different types and reclaimed wood which adds an extra outdoorsy touch.

"It's all basically recycled barn. It's a full barn from Wisconsin, we bought a whole barn," says Frauneder. "We disassembled the barn and we used some wood in some of the interior of the restaurant, and the same wood used on the deck."

The springtime weather is the perfect side dish to some of Edi's delicious, down-home plates. From schnitzels to spaetzels to flatbreads, the food is a breath of fresh air, representing authentic and simple Austrian cuisine.

"We try to create a very light execution, because people think Austrian and German food is very heavy. That's not the case here at Edi and the Wolf. It's seasonal, it's fresh, it's local," says Frauneder.

Edi and the Wolf has not yet been rated but surveyors say prices are moderate.
