A 63-year-old teacher was found beaten to death in her Manhattan apartment and her 19-year-old son was taken into police custody on Tuesday.

Police say Karyn Kay, who taught at Manhattan's LaGuardia High School, was found inside her apartment at 300 West 55th Street with severe head trauma.

Authorities told NY1 they were responding to a 911 call that happened during the assault.

Kay was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A fellow teacher at LaGuardia says Kay told her her son suffered from seizures and she was worried because he had recently started to act more violent.

By late Tuesday, the motive for the killing remained unknown.
